What are microscopes used for?

Lenses have been around since the sixth century, but the first microscope was made during the seventh century. Now, microscopes are used by everyone from scientists to middle school students to help with a variety of different experiments or tests. One way that microscopes are commonly used is to see details of an object or specimen that you would never be able to see with just your naked eye. You can zoom in on the specimen to get a better look, or see what is inside of it. For example, when you are looking at a sample of pond water through a microscope, you can see protozoa, amoebas and other one-celled creatures that you would never be able to see if you were just looking at pond water without a microscope. You can see what the one-celled creatures do and get information about what they are. Later on, that can lead to an important discovery. Another really important job that microscopes have is that they can tell us about diseases and help find cures for them. There are microscopes helping to record how the body’s defenses fight tumors and other infectious diseases such as cancer. They also have made videos of white blood cells invading and destroying cancer cells in living tissue with the use of microscopes. Microscopes have also helped people in other fields likepathology, where scientists look at body pieces that have been sliced thin and placed on glass slides and stained to search for disease processes. In addition, most people assume that there is only one kind of microscope, but there are actually many. For example, electron microscopes use a focused beam of electrons instead of light to “image” the object and gain information about it. Measuring microscopes are used by toolmakers to measure the properties of tools. There is also the SEM microscope. The SEM microscope is used to get a more clear view of the object. In school, kids look at objects for school work, but scientists use microscopes very seriously to do important tests and work. Microscopes can also help the police investigate a crime scene. They can look at something that's been touched and identify a finger print or they could find a strand of hair with a little piece of skin still attached to it, and that can help them find someone's DNA. It can aid the police in catching the criminal and microscopes are one of forensic scientists' most helpful tools. In conclusion, microscopes have been helping people in many ways since they were first invented hundreds of years ago.
